In January of 1911, The Baltimore Sun newspaper started a recipe contest.  The winner of the contest received $5.00 for the best recipe and 5 others recieved $1.00.  Since I have a curious mind, I put those numbers into an inflation calculator and $5.00 would be $133 today.  Not bad…

The contest started with soup and moved on to oysters, fish, game, meat, potato, tomato, salad, pie, ices, meat stews, pudding, eggs, rolls and muffins, cake, griddle cakes, strawberries, vegetables, crab, jelly, preserve, sweet pickles and sour pickles.

Over the next few days, I am going to post the $5.00 prize winning recipes.  The first one is for Chicken Noodle Soup.
