Fried Egg With Apples

Fried Egg With Apples

Looking for something to shake up your breakfast?  Try making Fried Eggs with Apples.  This was a completely new idea to me to pair eggs with apples.  They don’t sound like they go together, but I enjoyed this recipe.  My five year old told me it was weird, she’s my most honest critic.  I skipped the oven simply because I have no idea if the pan I was using was considered ovenproof.  If you made this in a iron cast skillet, you could easily move it from the range and put in the oven to finish.

I’ve estimated this recipe cost me about $2.40 to make and could serve 4 people, making each serving $0.60 per person.  It was a very filling breakfast.

Original Recipe

I found the recipe in The Bystander printed January 16, 1914.  Below is the original recipe.

Fried Eggs With Apples.  Pare and core three medium sweet apples, then cut in six slices, season all over with one-half teaspoon salt and two saltspoons pepper.  Thoroughly heat one and a half tablespoons melted butter in a large frying pan, add apples, one beside another, and fry for two minutes on each side.  Carefully crack 12 fresh eggs over apples, season evenly with one-half teaspoon salt and two saltspoons pepper, fry for a minute on range; place in oven for six minutes, remove, carefully glide on a hot dish and serve.
