Mrs. Steck’s Vanilla Wafers Recipe

First Prize

The following is my recipe for vanilla wafers: Cream one-third cup butter and lard, mixed; add one cup sugar, one egg well beaten, one-fourth cup of milk and two teaspoons of vanilla; sift together two and one-fourth cups of flour, one level teaspoon of baking powder, one-half teaspoon of salt, and then add this to the above mixture; then roll on floured board as thin as possible, using a small amount of dough at a time; cut into shape and bake in moderate oven.

Mrs. Williams’ Vanilla Wafers Recipe

Second Prize

My recipe for vanilla wafers: One heaping cup of butter, one and one-half cups of sugar, two eggs, three tablespoonfuls of sour milk, one small teaspoonful of soda, one teaspoonful of vanilla and as little flour as will make them stiff enough to roll.

Directions for mixing – Cream the sugar and butter and yolks of eggs together.  Dissolve the soda in the milk; beat the whites of eggs to a stiff froth.  Stir all ingredients together, add enough flour to make a soft dough; roll very thin and cut with a small cutter.  Sprinkle with sugar before cutting.

Ms. Schneider’s Vanilla Wafers Recipe

Third Prize

The following is my recipe for vanilla wafers: Cream 1 cup granulated sugar and 1/3 cup butter and lard mixed, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 egg, 1/4 cup sweet milk, 2 1/4 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 2 teaspoons vanilla.  Bake in moderate oven.

Fourth Prize

Recipe for Vanilla Wafers: One cup sugar, two-thirds cup butter, four tablespoons milk, one egg, one and one-half teaspoonfuls cream of tartar, two-thirds teaspoonful soda, one tablespoon vanilla, flour enough to roll out.

Mrs. Wylie’s Vanilla Wafers Recipe

Fifth Prize

The following is my recipe for vanilla wafers: Cream together one cup of butter and one cup of sugar, add one egg, well beaten; half cup of milk in which dissolved one-half teaspoon of soda, one cup and half flour and one teaspoon of cream of tartar, sifted together, and one tablespoon of vanilla, after thoroughly mixing add more flour, enough to roll without sticking, then bake in a quick oven.
