Elizabeth “Lizzie” Reinhard Brandenburg

 

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Reinhard Brandenburg was born April 21, 1867 in Dayton, Ohio.  She was the daughter of Peter Reinhard and Katherine Snyder.

In 1880, Elizabeth was living with her parents, Peter and Katherine and siblings, Nettie and William on Washington street in Dayton, Ohio.  Her father is working as a barber and her mother is keeping house.  Nettie, is 19 and working as a dressmaker.  Both Elizabeth and William are going to school, she was 13 years old in 1880.

Marriage to Ike Brandenburg

She married John Isaac “Ike” Brandenburg on June 13, 1888 in Dayton, Ohio when she was 21 and Ike was 23.  They had three children, Earl William, Catharine Elizabeth and Mary J.

Census Records

Elizabeth is living with her husband and children on Brown street in Dayton, Ohio on the 1900 census.  Elizabeth’s record shows she has had 4 children with 3 living.  Her husband, John, is working as a grocery clerk.  Lizzie is 33 in 1900 and her children are 9, 5 and 2.

The family is living at 108 Woodland Avenue in Dayton, Ohio on the 1910 census.  John is working as a clerk in a gun store.  Elizabeth has no profession listed and their son, Earl is working as a machine hand for the industry cash register and Catherine and Mary are also living at home.

In 1920, John, Elizabeth, Catherine and Mary and living at 108 Woodland Avenue in Dayton, Ohio.  John is working as a gun salesman, Elizabeth has no profession, Catherine is a stenographer for a garden tool factory and Mary is a stenographer for a printing shop.  Their son Earl is not living with the family on this census record.

John, Elizabeth and Mary are living at 108 Woodland Avenue in Dayton, Ohio on the 1930 census.  Her husband, John, is working as a hardware salesman, Elizabeth has no profession and their daughter, Mary, is a bookkeeper for an ink manufacturer.

John and Elizabeth are living alone on the 1940 census at 108 Woodland Avenue, Dayton, Ohio.  John is working as a clerk for a sporting goods store and Elizabeth has no profession listed.

Elizabeth passed away on May 11, 1941 at the family home.  She was 74 years old.

Mrs. Elizabeth Brandenburg, 74, wife of J. Ike Brandenburg, died at 11:11 p. m. Sunday at her home, 108 Woodland avenue.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday at the Morris Sons funeral home, conducted by Rev. Finn Hansen.  Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.  Mrs. Brandenburg was born in Dayton and lived here all her life.  she was a member of the First Lutheran church.  Survivors are her husband, two daughter, Mary Brandenburg, Dayton, and Mrs. Roy N. Meissinger, St. Louis, Mo.; a son, Earl of Dayton, and three grandchildren.
